As with other rehabilitation treatments, the rehabilitation period and functional behavior may also vary depending on how the rehabilitation begins immediately after surgery and how you receive rehabilitation after Cast off.
Particularly, the fingers are one of the smallest parts in the human body. in my clinical experiences, the recovery rate can be slow compared to other parts, and it is one of the most prone to permanent disability. I have seen a lot of patients in rehabilitation treatment after finger surgery but it seems that there were many patients who came to know about electric manual therapy (electric nerve therapy) already after a long time after surgery. Most of the patients have had rehabilitation without knowing about edema management, when to take heat/cold treatment, when to stop treatment and take some rest, and when to do active or passive exercises.
For example, immediately after surgery, you need to perform passive movement-oriented joint range movement, and if there is swelling, you must constantly manage it using cold treatments that can relieve swelling and compression tools such as the Coban. I have seen quite a few cases where the swelling grows more and more by exercising immediately just after surgery. In this case, excessive tension is created directly on the surgical site, which causes the swelling to become larger and the finger to be unable to move due to the swelling.
I have seen such cases too many times, and as a result, disability remains or the rehabilitation period is too long. The most important thing in finger rehabilitation treatment is how to manage the edema quickly in the initial rehabilitation and how to quickly remove the edema has a significant effect on the shortening of the rehabilitation period and the recovery of the functional joint range.
The video below is a video about how to manage initial edema using the Coban. For reference, you should tie your Coban to a bed before going to sleep. And remove the Coban in the morning before you start rehabilitation. Continuous compression of the Coban can cause finger stiffness again. Therefore, it is recommended that you try to use a method that helps to suppress swelling of the fingers by using the Coban only when sleeping.
